The Low-Down

We are the McCalls! We met 6 years ago at church and soon became friends. We stayed in the “friend zone” until I (Tiana) moved away, lived in China for a year, then came back to Utah. Adrian kept in touch with me throughout my stay in China and we gradually grew closer and closer. When I came back to Utah, I lived with my parents in St. George while Adrian continued to live in Salt Lake City. We kept in touch still and Adrian tried to make plans to meet up on his way to visit a friend in Vegas. I was being a little flakey and hard to get and kept cancelling last minute. I finally came to my senses and agreed to meet up after over a year of not seeing each other. We hit it off and officially began dating in December 2013. I was still living in St. George so we made the long distance thing work. The next several months consisted of lots of texting and phone calls and trips back and forth.

By May 2014 we both felt ready to move forward and get married. My dad was living in the Middle East at the time so we needed to make plans around the time he would be in the US for his yearly visit. That meant we would be getting married in August 2014!

After getting engaged, I moved to Salt Lake City so we could work on planning our wedding together. At the end of a short engagement, we sealed the deal in Adrian’s uncle’s backyard on August 1, 2014. His uncle officiated the wedding and our families and closest friends celebrated with us.

A few short weeks after getting married, I started my Masters degree program. I was accepted into an online program to earn my degree in Social Work. For the next two years, that would be our life! Adrian supported me through countless late nights of reading never-ending articles and writing pages and pages of research papers. He endured being in the backseat during this time when my education was in the front seat. He celebrated with me when I finally graduated and earned my MSW. He encouraged me to be confident and helped me relax when I took my licensing exam. When I told him I passed his comment was “I knew you would!”

While I was toiling away in graduate school, Adrian was working in the construction field. He did lots of different jobs including building awnings, installing Ilea kitchens, and installing windows. He has settled on installing windows for now, with the hopes of obtaining a contractors license in the next few years. I got my very first job as a social worker at an elementary school in the area and I am loving the work that I get to do!

In November 2016 Adrian and I were sealed in the LDS temple. We were lucky to have our family with us to experience that happy day!
